Path to Medicine

  • Initially thought medicine was unattainable
  • Worked at Renault’s assembly line after high school
    • Harsh working conditions and repetitive tasks reignited his desire to study
  • Turning point: a TV documentary about doctors on a hospital plane helping a blind girl in India
    • This moment led him to declare to his mother:

“I will study medicine. I will become a doctor.”

Medical Education & Early Career

  • Studied general medicine, emergency care, and traumatology in Brussels
  • Participated in internships and overseas missions that grounded his values
  • Began working in the French Alps, focusing on trauma care for winter sports and mountain accidents

Life in Switzerland

  • Moved to the Swiss Alps, where he has practiced medicine for over 12 years
  • Built a life and family in Verbier while continuing his work as a doctor

Humanitarian Awakening

Maintained the original spark that led him to medicine: service with purpose

Explored humanitarian missions, but was disillusioned by superficial efforts:

“Don’t just give me a fish, teach me how to fish.”

 Gaza Missions (2024)

In response to the silent genocide in Gaza, he undertook 3 humanitarian missions: April, July, and December 2024. What I witnessed was beyond humanitarian crisis:

  • Beheaded infants, mothers carrying remains in plastic bags,
  • Burn victims without pain relief, war injuries everywhere

Worked in frontline emergency care, treating:

  • Polytrauma cases
  • Burn victims
  • Bombing-related injuries
  • Refused to remain passive in the face of such horror

Living the Paradox

Acknowledges the extreme contrast between treating skiers in Verbier and war victims in Gaza

Stays true to his values despite the contradiction

“What matters is staying true to your principles.”

Peace March to Gaza (June 2025)

Participated in a peaceful march toward Gaza via Egypt

Although blocked by Egyptian authorities, the action was a major success:

  • Mobilized 4,500 people from all over the world
  • A diverse, heart-led movement that shattered the silence

Current Involvement: Global Sumud Flotilla

  • Now committed to continuing this fight through the international flotilla coalition

  • Working with the Global Sumud Flotilla movement

  • Believes that:

    • “Doing nothing is not an option.”

    • “Breaking the blockade is a necessity.”

  • In 2025, Dr. Hicham founded Waves of Freedom Switzerland
a civilian-led initiative representing the Swiss delegation,
to actively join and support the Global Sumud Flotilla in its mission for justice and humanitarian action.
